The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia carries out its edu-
cational and research activities in the fields of medicine and surgery
at Ospedale Policlinico of Modena and Ospedale Civile of Baggiovara .

The legal and administrative entity is Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria
of Modena , which collaborates with Ospedale Santa Maria Nuova of

Reggio Emilia , which relies on Azienda U.S.L. of Reggio Emilia .

The Italian National Health Service makes the hospital unit Policlini-
co available for welfare assistance, which is essential for teaching and
research purposes, in accordance with the Legislative Decree 517-99
of the Regional Law n. 29-2004. Policlinico is therefore the so-called
“teaching hospital”, where new doctors, dentists, postgraduate students,
nurses and people enrolled in departments where research and teach-
ing are undertaken together with activities connected with the pro-
vision of Modena care are constantly trained. These departments are
corporate structures that include employees of the Azienda Ospedaliero
Universitaria and academic staff that has a convention with Policlinico.
In particular, the University has started the six-year Degrees in Medicine
and Surgery and in Dentistry and Prosthodontics, whose professional
clinical training activities take place at Policlinico. Moreover, Policlinico
is also the location for students’ internship of several Healthcare Bach-
elor Degrees: Cardio-circulatory Physiopathology Techniques and Car-
diovascular Perfusion, Dental Hygiene, Dietician professions (together
with Ospedale of Baggiovara), Nursing professions (for the seat of Modena),
Biomedical Lab Techniques, Obstetrics, Medical Radiology Techniques
related to x-ray images and Radiotherapy (together with Ospedale of Bag-
giovara).
The curricula depend on the following Departments of the Faculty of
Medicine and Surgery: Dipartimento di Scienze Mediche e Chirurgiche Ma-
