                                                                                           Mirandola’s technopole – also named TPM and dedicated to the
                                                                                           memory of Mario Veronesi, who was the founder and the creator
                                                                                           of Mirandola’s Biomedical District – was established thanks to the
                                                                                           funding of the Emilia Romagna Region and of the Democenter
                                                                                           Foundation, while the incubator was financed by Mirandola’s Cassa
                                                                                           di Risparmio. It is located in the building provided by Mirandola’s
                                                                                           Municipality.
                                                                                           It was designed and put forward by the enterprises of Mirando-
                                                                                           la’s territory, together with the University of Modena and Reggio
                                                                                           Emilia, the Democenter and local institutions, right after the 2012
                                                                                           earthquake.
                                                                                           The building – which is managed by the Democenter Foundation
                                                                                           – was inaugurated in January 10, 2015 and it focuses its activities
                                                                                           on the Biomedical field. It was completely made out of wood; it
                                                                                           represents an example of sustainability, energy efficiency, anti-seis-
                                                                                           mic security and flexibility in the organisation of the spaces. It is
                                                                                           developed on two floors, for an overall gross area of almost 900
                                                                                           square miles. Moreover, thanks to the use of wood, it was possible
                                                                                           to increase the total area by over 55 square miles than initially men-
                                                                                           tioned in the application for tenders. The use of wooden load-bear-
                                                                                           ing elements allowed for the reduction of the area occupied by walls
                                                                                           of almost the 12% compared to the gross area. It was also possible
                                                                                           to reach incredible results in the field of energy efficiency thanks to
                                                                                           the thermal characteristics of the building’s outer layer. The struc-
                                                                                           ture is compact but well proportioned, with a façade with a width
                                                                                           of 28 m and a depth of 16 m.
                                                                                           The aim of creating the Technopole was to boost the relations be-
                                                                                           tween companies, University and the Region. In the Centre there
                                                                                           were laboratories of toxicology, proteomics and biological micros-
                                                                                           copy, as well as materials, sensors and systems relocated. It presents
