Anche qui, la struttura, come per l’Istituto Biologico, è caratterizzata
da telaio strutturale in cemento e mattoni rossi a vista, entro cui sono
inserite le finestre.
Nel 1967-68, trovarono sede in questo fabbricato gli Istituti autonomi
di Chimica Generale ed Inorganica e di Chimica Fisica -che si trova-
vano nel convento di Sant’Eufemia - e quello di Chimica Organica,
temporaneamente ospitato in locali in via Vivaldi. L’Istituto di Chi-
mica, che originariamente aveva sede nel Palazzo Universitario, era
stato trasferito nel 1908 in Sant’Eufemia; l’Istituto di Chimica Fisica
era stato istituito nel 1961, così come l’Istituto di Chimica Generale
e Inorganica, distaccato da quello di Chimica Organica. Attualmente,
l’edificio è dismesso.
Istituto di Fisica, ora parte del Dipartimento di Scienze
Fisiche, Informatiche e Matematiche
Nel 1970 fu autorizzata la costruzione dell’edificio che doveva ospi-
tare l’Istituto di Fisica, qui trasferito dal Palazzo Universitario attuale
sede del Rettorato e ora parte del Dipartimento di Scienze Fisiche,
Informatiche e Matematiche. La pianta dell’edificio è composta da un
sistema di volumi apparentemente indipendenti tra loro, di cui uno più
alto e imponente rispetto agli altri, ma che si aggregano intorno a una
corte aperta. Altre due piccole corti interne sono ricavate al centro del
complesso, permettendo ad alcuni ambienti di essere illuminati dalla
luce naturale.
Il trattamento delle superfici è lineare e piano: sono caratterizzate solo
dalla fitta sequenza delle strette finestre disposte sui quattro piani del
volume più alto e dalla fila di finestre e finestroni sugli altri volumi più
bassi su un unico piano.

into which the windows are embedded.
In 1967-68, the independent Institutes of General and Inorganic Chem-
istry, Physical Chemistry (which before were located in the Sant’Eufemia
convent) and Organic Chemistry (which was temporarily located in
some rooms in Via Vivaldi moved their departments to this building. The
Institute of Chemistry, originally located in the Palazzo Universitario, was
relocated to the Sant’Eufemia convent in 1908. The Institute of physics
and Chemistry formally opened in 1961, such as the Institute of General
and Inorganic Chemistry, which is unrelated to the Institute of Organic
Chemistry. Nowadays the building remains derelict.
Institute of Physics, now part of the Physics, Computer
and Mathematical Sciences Department
The construction of the building that would have housed the Institute
of Physics was authorised in 1970. The Institute was relocated there
after moving from its previous premises in the Palazzo Universitario,

which is currently seat of the Rettorato . Now, the Institute forms part
of the Physics, Computer and Mathematical Sciences Department. The
layout of the building is composed by a series of bodies apparently in-
dependent one from the other – one of which is higher and larger than
the others – but that aggregate around an open court. Two other small
internal courts were created in the centre of the complex, allowing
some rooms to be lit by natural light.
The surface treatment is linear and flat; as a matter of fact, the struc-
tures are only characterised by the dense sequence of narrow windows
throughout the height of the four floors of the highest body and by the
windows and picture windows on the smaller one-floored constructions.
